What are Electronic Components?

14 02 2011

There are a wide variety of electrical components required to make up systems dependant on electricity to function.

Find out more about the basic structure, the way electronic components are organised, and where to buy electronic components online.

What are electronic components?

This can refer to any part of an electronic system used to affect the flow of electricity – the electrons – in a desired manner to produce the desired outcome.

Electronic components are made to be connected together to create an electronic circuit of which a printed circuit board organises this.

Printed circuit boards support the electrical components using conductive pathways, and are used by most commercially-produced electronic devices.

Electronic Connectors

Electronic connectors are a type of electronic component, and their function is to join electrical circuits together.

Often the machines or devices that require connectors will be dependent on the electrical current to operate, so they have to not just be specific to the device in which they are used, but reliably connect the circuits for smooth operation.

They also have to be highly durable depending on the industry in which they are being used.

Industry, military, scientific and telecommunications sectors tend to require robust electronic connectors to withstand the high pressures, and environmental conditions they may be introduced to.
