3M develop groundbreaking new device

3M, one of the leaders in the field of static control, have announced that they are teaming up with IBM to develop the first adhesives to pack semiconductors into densely packed silicon ‘towers’.

Both companies are currently attempting to devise the last element of the potentially groundbreaking device, a material that can double as an electrical insulator and a thermal conductor.

3M have stated that it has not yet been decided if the jointly developed product has been sold to other chip makers.

The news follows hot on the heels of the release of the brand new 3m Crimplok+ Connector.

Principally an FTTX Field mounted connector, it meets both indoor and outdoor performance requirements comfortably.

The new connector has been hailed as one of the most innovative and intuitive additions to the connector market for some time.

A distinct metallic element within the connector locks the fiber in place and the connector is designed without a splice. This eliminates a potential optical loss point.

3M were also keen to point out that the absence of gel or adhesive removes worries over the type of problems which are commonly associated with mechanical connectivity.
