Amphenol Launch New Mil-Spec Connector for Harsh Environments

21 09 2011

Amphenol Industrial, the global leader in interconnect systems and industrial connectors has launched a new high speed connector for use in harsh environments.

The new Amphenol Max-M12 connection system is ideal for construction machinery and equipment, forestry equipment, navigation, GPS and telematics, mining machinery and equipment, agricultural machinery and equipment and harsh environment sensors, controllers, actuators and switches.

The product is designed to withstand high vibration, high temperature and extremely rugged environments and the Max-M12 meets both IEC 61076-2-101 and SAE J 2839 standards.  Other recent Amphenol releases have included the Amphe-PPC Connector, the Amphe-BTS Power Connector and the HD-BNC series solution.

The new system is housed in an HDM 12 EX impact resistant metal shell and available as a 90 degree right angle connector or in a straight version. Both are available in 4- and 5-pin configurations with B, D and P polarity codes in line with IEC 61076-2-101 specifications and come as stand-alone connectors or cable assemblies with the option to over-mold the cable assembly.

Amphenol also produce connectors and additional electronic equipment for a variety of other sectors and applications. For details of all the products available from Amphenol and other leading suppliers, visit

The new Amphenol Max-M12 connector can be terminated into 0.8 mm2 (18 AWG) or 0.5 mm2 (20 AWG) wires as defined by SAE J1128 and 0.75 mm2 or 0.50 mm2 conductors as defined by ISO 6722.

The new connection system can withstand temperatures ranging from -40 degrees C up to 125 degrees C, while maintaining a current rating of 4 A at 250 V (4-pin) and 60 V (5-pin).  The IP67 and IP69K compliant Max-M12 is dust and waterproof and resistant to high pressure and high temperature wash downs.

The dielectric withstanding of the Max-M12 is 1,000 V.  The connection is rated for impulse voltage of 1,500 V.  The connector’s electrical insulation provides a resistance of over 20 megaohms, while providing a high temperature life of 1,000 hours at 125 degrees C.

Pei Genesis has a worldwide reputation within the world of precision connectors. Find out more about the mil-spec connectors.

Pei Genesis specialise in military connectors. Their mil-spec connectors include: MIL-DTL-38999 connectors (MIL-C-38999), MIL-DTL-5015 connectors (MIL-C-5015), MIL-DTL-26482 connectors (MIL-C-26482), MIL-DTL-83513 connectors (MIL-C-83513), and MIL-DTL-24308 connectors (MIL-C-24308).

Military Connectors

Military connectors have to meet the specialised requirement of army machines and guided missiles, such as small rockets to multistage vehicles. Without a suitable connector, many pieces of military equipment will not work properly.

Military connectors have to be able to withstand harsh environments such as high pressure, wind and rain, as well as other extreme combat conditions.

Connectors are also commonly required in industry and the different models include: Industrial circular, industrial rectangular, RF coaxial connectors, smart card connectors and heat seal connectors.

Pei Genesis claim to be able to build up to 12 million custom connector designs in record fast time. The company claim to be the fastest producer of electronic components in the world, concentrating hard on simplifying the cost of acquisition and customer lead times.

The company relies heavily on it’s proprietary automation service to create robust products that serve the exact needs of customers.
